tattooed arm

i've left some new bowls at Sintra today. a few earthenware pieces, but also some porcelain bowls.
(i actually enjoyed a tiny little break from the earthenware and fritware, so you might see a few more porcelain or stoneware bits and pieces in the future, who knows?)

a couple of weeks ago i cycled my first alley-cat: Svart Katt, arranged by Komet Club Rouleur.
so this post is pretty late, but it was a good night! and here is a plate with the same theme...

Pakistan

Friends and former schoolmates from Pakistan have started an appeal for Pakistan called 1toAnother - they are raising funds, and will travel to Pakistan the first week of October for three weeks, to oversee the distribution.

And here is a blog about the situation, On the Ground

Please don't forget Pakistan.

Naturhistoriska museet

going to the Natural History museum always feels a little bit like walking around in a morgue.
i imagined that if i was a filmmaker or animator i would make a film about all of the birds (and other animals and insects too, but i was mostly thinking about the birds) suddenly came to life and there was lots of noise and breaking glass and beating wings and movement as they all broke out of the glass cases and escaped from the museum. but i'm not, so i just made a few pencil drawings. it's so much easier, when they're all still and you can get so close...

autumn

a little bike accident a couple of weeks ago has meant that i've not been able to do much work lately.
but i have been able to walk around in the forest. it's a good time to walk around in the forest - mushrooms and berries and colour and silence.
i also saw a couple of snakes, that were lying very still but still alive. and another time a little red squirrel chattered at me and jumped around in the trees. and birds, couldn't tell what kinds. i never see any moose or deer or hares though, i guess i'm too noisy.

i also just visited my grandmothers. they're brilliant and amazing.

on one grandma's embroidered wall-hanging it says "Love makes hands diligent".

Pakistan

You've all heard about the terrible devastating floods in Pakistan by now... You may also know that i was born there, and grew up there. It's difficult to take in what i hear on the radio and read on the news and hear from my parents friends... so so many people. And the consequences of it - many haven't yet recovered from the earthquake that destroyed so much 2005.

I don't know what to do... but I thought i would post a few sites that give info about organisations that are receiving donations for the relief efforts:

magic pens

Our lovely friend Leila came for a visit. She brought a few Chartpak Blender pens, which dissolve the ink from a laser-jet printer, making it possible to transfer images! Since there is iron-oxide in the ink, they can be used on ceramics, and fire to various shades of brown. I learned about it from the brilliant American ceramist David Allyn, he held a workshop while he was here exhibiting at Sintra.

art/rubbish

Like i mentioned the other day, we saw an exhibition on Saturday that i wasn't too impressed with.
But today i saw it in a skip!
Interesting that what is art one day is rubbish the next...

saturday

Today was a good day. I went to three exhibitions with a couple of friends from the studio, eg

Masayoshi Oya's porcelain portraits at Two Little Birds
and
Juan-Pedro Fabra Guemberena's The South Will Rise Again at Röda Sten.

If you're in Göteborg, go and see both! Fabra's was very thought-provoking, especially now with all the Wikileaks news from Afghanistan...
(The third exhibition wasn't really worth mentioning, in my opinion.)

Then we ate pizza, and then worked in the studio for a few hours, while J. played loud opera music. I realized it was time to go home when i was spending more time staring at the wheel going round and round than doing anything else...

back to work!

I haven't been in the studio so much the last wee while (instead picking berries, hanging out with grandmothers, going back and forth to Copenhagen, etc etc) but now i'm spending as much time there as possible, making things for Upmarket, which is in a couple of weeks.
